House of the Dragon Ep 6: The Princess and the Queen Official Website for the HBO Series
Table Of Content
If you want to see how that part of Targaryen history unfolds, you’ll have to keep an eye on House of the Dragon. Over the course of the series viewers could see up to 17 different dragons. As they are introduced, be sure to visit the Official Dragon Index for a quick look at which dragon is which. Game of Thrones is based on Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, but House of the Dragon is based on his “history” book, Fire & Blood. The book is credited as written by an Archmaester of Westeros, with various accounts on what happened during the Targaryen reign.
07 Driftmark
With the Driftmark succession suddenly critical, Rhaenyra attempts to strike a bargain with Rhaenys. Ryan Condal, Miguel Sapochnik, Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), and more speak to the timejump in the third episode, Viserys and Rhaenyra's mental states during the hunt, and Daemon's fight at the Stepstones. E2 • The Rogue Prince
Without getting into spoilers, the presence of Simon Strong and Alys Rivers, in particular, point to a sequence of events from the source material that unfolds at Harrenhal. There's a reason Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) made mention of Harrenhal when poring over the painted table at Queen Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) war council in the season 1 finale. First, Daemon must zoom around Westeros to gather as many houses as possible for that fight. I suspect that the strategy set-up will take up much of this second season, but unlike with the book, Rhaenyra might even leave Dragonstone to participate. And we will literally see fire rain down from the sky when the two sides have to force allegiance from reluctant settlements. Viserys hosts a tournament to celebrate the birth of his second child.

The Princess and the Queen
Before George R.R. Martin’s Westeros endured the Game of Thrones, Aegon the Conquerer set up his House of Targaryen to rule the Seven Kingdoms. Now, HBO is gearing up to show us the mayhem that happened when this house splintered into two sides that each claimed the Iron Throne. In one corner, Rhaenyra Targaryen had been named rightful heir by her father. On the other side, Aegon Targaryen II had been erroneously elevated to king after his wife, Alicent Hightower, mistakenly interpreted King Viserys’ deathbed ramblings.

Vaemond (Wil Johnson) will probably win his argument, as long as he keeps his head. This is a time during which the Targaryens controlled 17 dragons and you can take a look at our guide to all dragons in Game of Thrones for more info. Like its predecessor, much of House of the Dragon takes place in Westeros, with familiar settings like King’s Landing and Dragonstone, but keep an eye out for some new locations we’ve never seen before.
"[Rhaenyra's] children ... are ... bastards," Vaemond says. Just last week we saw her entreat Corlys to have Driftmark pass directly to Baela and not Laenor, because she knows full well that Jace and Luke are not Laenor's sons. But Corlys refused her request, so, dutiful wife that she is, she publicly announces her husband's wish that Luke inherit Driftmark. She also announces (equally publicly, because she's no fool) that Rhaenyra has offered to marry Jace and Luke to Baela and Rhaena. And asks Rhaenys, Corlys' wife, to speak, as she's likeliest to know his wishes.
